You and the Sky
“We want to remind all LGBTQ people that we are there under the same sky and that they too will rise”
CampFire Theatre are looking for members of the LGBTQ+ community to share their story as part of a new Instagram project, You and the Sky. The project aims to highlight how individuals have blossomed in the face of hardship and inequalities. Both an acknowledgement of the difficulties the LGBTQ+ communities are subjected to and a celebration of how these can be overcome, You and the Sky is a creative response to Covid-19 which for many has furthered bolstered discrimination and adversity towards the community.
“LGBTQ people face disproportionate levels of homelessness and the crisis has forced many back into unsafe domestic spaces, isolated without support networks. Young LGBTQ people are being advised by charities to “Press pause” on coming out. LGBTQ people are significantly more susceptible to mental health issues due to discrimination and inequalities. This is only exacerbated through social isolation.” - Liam Shea, CampFire Theatre
Here’s everything you need to know about the project if you would like to get involved:
If you’d like to take part we’d like a photo of you and the sky. This could be the night sky, sunset, sunrise, a bright blue sky or even a grey one. We want to remind all LGBTQ people that we are there under the same sky and that they too will rise.
Accompanying your photo we’d need your name, what it is you do (work title or something exciting you do like juggling!) and we’d like you to write a short paragraph answering the following question:
Tell us about a moment you faced adversity and what it was that fuelled you out of it.
