The AWH Foundation

The AWH Foundation is a short series of tasks that span across 3 months, designed to explore and push creative boundaries by challenging creators to use undiscovered skills. Speaking about its inception Adam Wilson Holmes the artist behind the Foundation states,

"I initially started this project as a way of breaking my own expectation and habits of creativity. I think often as artists we get caught up in one dimension of work, especially if that work becomes publicly shown. This for me is the antidote to that."

The course has been built up using research from first-hand experience of Art & Design Foundation courses, and taking inspiration from Foundations such as Central Saint Martins, among others. It focuses on weekly tasks that are each inspired by different vocations within the arts: Fine Art, Illustration, Animation, Fashion & Textiles, Architecture, Photography, Performance, and even Curating.

"With the structure of the course I had made for myself, and the interest in the project whenever I spoke about it, I decided to share these tasks so others could follow along."

The AWH Foundation is created with the restrictions of lockdown in mind, meaning all tasks should be achievable with the existing materials around you. With each project lasting just one week, it's easy to dip in and out, and work at your own pace. No one is judging, no one is marking, and there are no expectations.

Each task is announced on Sundays at @straightbuttcurious.
